GMAT – Opening up a pool of Global Opportunities
 
The recession has destroyed the world economy, devastated million homes, withered apart many companies across the boundaries. Graduate Management Admission Test popularly known as GMAT is a test for entry to top global business schools to pursue MBA.
 
GMAT is a computer based test in most of the countries with certain exceptions where it is conducted on paper. This article opens up various aspects of GMAT, one of the significant Management exams held worldwide. Many of the ace business schools consider the GMAT as one of the selection criteria.
 
GMAT is conducted in more than 150 countries round the year.
THE TEST
 
The GMAT is structured to test the verbal, mathematical and analytical writing skills of the management aspirant. GMAT is a four - hour test, including two 10 minutes breaks. The first i.e. the Verbal section is further categorized in three sub sections to test the proficiency of the candidate in grammar, sentence formation, structure , clarity, and suitability. It has 41 questions to be attempted in 75 minutes.
 
The next few questions in GMAT fall into the mathematical section. The time allotted to attempt 37 multiple choice question is 1 hour 15 minutes. This section holds the maximum weight age when it comes to enrollment for the best international MBA.
 
The last section of GMAT is only 30 minutes, with two abstract essays to analyze the arguments and issues to check the logical reasoning of a prospective MBA student. This section is not as important as the other two.
 
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
 
Though most B- Schools do not give away their cut – offs. Some magazines and newsletters do publish the minimum acceptable score and the median scores.  The total score ranges from 200 – 800. 75% candidates who sit for the GMAT score a decent 400 – 600, wherein essays aren’t included.

All the top B- schools consider students with GMAT scores lying between higher end of 600s and lows of 700.

 
The marking is relative and not absolute. It is weighted in accordance to the level of difficulty.
 
GMAT is a very flexible exam. The GMAT scores are available for five years for most of the institutions. The average score has been 535.2.
